It is time for Physiologia Plantarum to get a new suit!

After 72 years on the market, Physiologia Plantarum is, once again, changing its look and feel, this time to emphasize the many digital advances we have made in recent years in order to secure the continuing success of our journal in an evolving publishing landscape.
Three years ago, we jumped on the social media train and also launched a brand-new webpage. A growing community of followers on Twitter and Facebook is rewarding our efforts. Two years ago, we started our ‘In the Spotlight’ series with the goal to make the science we publish comprehensible also to scientists outside the field and to put the reported data into a broader context. Last year, we went online-only and we are quickly marching towards direct/continuous publication (meaning accepted manuscripts are automatically published in the issue of the month; more about this in a future post).

For our new look, we needed a logo that could be implemented in our covers, published articles, social media; a recognizable feature representing Physiologia Plantarum (by the way, our name is Latin for “Plant physiology”, chosen by our founders in 1948). We wanted the logo to represent the Scandinavian origin of the Journal: the tree symbolizes Yggdrasil (the tree of life in Scandinavian mythology) and is drawn in a style used by Linné (a Swede!). The crown as well as the roots are represented to reflect the broad whole-plant scope of our journal. The big, thick trunk symbolizes strength, stability, and trust. The tree is surrounded by an unfinished circle, which embodies dynamism and openness – a bridge between our history and the new challenges ahead of us. We are pleased with the result and the lift our new logo brings to our new cover design; we hope you like it too 😊.

Starting from October, all accepted article will have a new layout as well, which will streamline and speed up proofing and production. Our publisher (Wiley) has implemented a “New Journal Design”: a few designed and fixed templates applied to all journals of their portfolio, i.e. less varying details to help typesetters mount proofs quickly and efficiently. Here again, our new logo will help you identify articles published by Physiologia Plantarum.

Last but not least, we are happy to announce that our IF 2019 reached 4.1, our highest score since the IF system was established.

Welcome to read and publish articles in Physiologia Plantarum!
