Call for articles – H2S and NO signals integration

Special Issue on “Hydrogen sulfide and nitric oxide signals integration and plant development under stressed/non-stressed conditions”

Physiologia Plantarum is inviting original research and review papers for a Special Issue on “Hydrogen sulfide and nitric oxide signals integration and plant development under stressed/non-stressed conditions”, that will cover topics on roles of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and/or nitric oxide (NO) in plant stress acclimation and plant development under stressed/non-stressed environment.

In the past decade, H2S and NO have emerged as major signaling molecules which regulate more or less each and every step of plant’s life cycle i.e. from seed germination to the death of plants. H2S- and NO-regulated development of plants requires integration of complex signaling networks. The tuning of the players involved in acquiring adaptive changes in stress-challenged plants, like reestablishing the cellular redox homeostasis under stress conditions, takes place at transcriptional, post-transcriptional and post-translational levels. Though in the recent past, various studies have demonstrated the role of H2S and NO in regulating seed germination, nodule formation and nitrogen fixation, homeostasis of reactive oxygen species, and plant hormones, etc. and their subsequent implications in plant development under stressed/non-stressed conditions, much remains to be investigated about their roles in plant biology. Thus, research on some key points like their endogenous levels and their further implications in plant developmental processes is still going on.

Considering emerging novel aspects of H2S and NO in plant biology we would like to invite manuscripts for a Special Issue on “Hydrogen sulfide and nitric oxide signals integration and plant development under stressed/non-stressed conditions” covering following topics:

  • H2S and NO cross-talk and abiotic stress acclimation
  • Integration of H2S and/or NO signals with other signaling pathways, and their regulation of plant development

All papers for this special issue will be subjected to peer-review. Special Issue papers must be written concisely, with no more than 50 references and about 9 printed pages, including all references and data displays (one printed page of full text is equivalent to around 5600 characters, including spaces). Reviews/Opinion papers should include no more than 4 data displays, with an emphasis on integrative models rather than primary data. Authors are encouraged to submit these data displays in color and, if found suitable, color displays will be published free of charge.

The submission target date for the Special Issue is June 2019 with a publication on January 2020. All accepted manuscripts will be available online immediately upon acceptance. All accepted papers will be free of any page or production charges and will be open access for the first 6 months.
