Aims and Scope

Physiologia Plantarum is an international journal committed to publishing the best full-length original research papers that advance our understanding of primary mechanisms of plant development, growth and productivity as well as plant interactions with the biotic and abiotic environment. All organizational levels of experimental plant biology – from molecular and cell biology, biochemistry and biophysics to ecophysiology and global change biology – fall within the scope of the journal.

The content is distributed between 7 main subject areas supervised by Subject Editors specialized in the respective domain:

(1) Metabolism and abiotic stress biology
(2) Plant ecophysiology and climate
(3) Plant nutrition
(4) Development, growth and differentiation
(5) Photobiology, photosynthesis and primary metabolism
(6) Computational biology and data-driven resources
(7) Biotic interactions

The journal also welcomes submission of short communications, reviews, resources articles, technical advances and viewpoints. Click here to know more about each manuscript type.

In 2019 PPL entered a cooperation with Wiley’s new open access journal Plant-Environment Interactions (PEI). Authors of papers that are deemed not suitable for publication in PPL (i.e. out of scope, too descriptive or too applied for our journal) may now in some cases be offered the option of having their paper transferred for consideration by PEI. We believe this will constitute an appreciated new service for authors.
