Curiosity is your thing & you would also like to support a great initiative? Are you interested in science communication & education? Do you love microscopy?
Then this is for you: join the Foldscope Contest organized specifically for the online SPPS Student Conference in September 2020!
We want you to use a basic Foldscope , an amazing initiative to support communities worldwide that do not have access to costly microscopy facilities! It was started by Manu Prakash and Jim Cybulski and you can find a lot of information about their mission, story, and motivation behind their company on their webpage. Please visit it & spread the word about it!
The contest goes like this:
- Sign up for the contest on the registration form for the SPPS Student conference.
- We will send you a basic Foldscope beginning of August 2020.
- Throughout August 2020, you will have the possibility to take pictures with your foldscope, either from your surroundings, your research project or anything else you think is interesting to share with the science community.
- Send your pictures (maximum 2 pictures) by the end of August to: maria.ppl@telia.com. Add 3-5 sentences explaining what can be seen in your picture. Be as engaging as possible!
- All the pictures we receive will be displayed on our webpage, where people can vote for their favorite during the two first weeks of September. The voting will be advertised on our social media channels and we would be glad if you could help spread the word as well.
- The two scientists who took the pictures with the most votes will win the Contest and receive a Deluxe Foldscope Kit from us!
After the Contest: we will keep the database of pictures openly available for everyone to look at, so please provide your contact details and Twitter ID (if you have one), so we can properly credit you and tag you to our posts. We would also like to keep the possibility to use the pictures for potential Physiologia Plantarum Cover Designs or Social Media posts, of course always crediting your work!
Finally: Have a lot of fun, share your joy, your curiosity & enjoy spreading science to your surroundings!
